Tru Earth to Donate 300,000 Loads of Laundry Detergent to Health Partners International of Canada to Support Ghana

The donation to the Obaatanpa Project in Ghana, will help improve maternal, newborn and child health as the COVID-19 crisis continues.

Oakville, ON (July 15, 2020)

The world’s most vulnerable will benefit from a donation of 300,000 Tru Earth laundry strips to Health Partners International of Canada on Wednesday.

The donation, inspired by the growing need during the COVID-19 crisis and valued at $127,000 is part of Canadian company, Tru Earth’s commitment to continually give back to those who need assistance. It is the first step in their commitment to donate 2 million loads of laundry to support HPIC’s international aid efforts over the course of the next year.

Today’s donation will support the Obaatanpa project which is a three-year maternal and child health project that aims to improve maternal, newborn and child health in the Amansie West and South Districts of the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The project (whose name literally means Good Mother in the Ghanaian Twi dialect) focuses on improving the capacity of nine health facilities to provide quality services to pregnant women, mothers, newborn babies and young children. The 300,000 loads of laundry will help further the health of mothers and babies in this region. To date, through the Obaatanpa project, HPIC has:

  • Provided medicine and supply donations worth more than $762,000 to health facilities throughout Ghana allowing for more than 90,000 treatments;
  • Distributed MCH kits and backpacks filled with medicines and supplies for maternal and child health to equip community health nurses in their outreach activities;
  • Provided newborn kits filled with basic supplies that a new mother would need to care for her baby; and
  • Supported the training of 139 midwives and nurses in pre-natal care, labour, delivery, immediate postpartum care and management of childhood illnesses.

Start Up Company, Tru Earth announced their goal to donate laundry detergent to those in need back in April and have been making shipments to shelters, food banks and hospitals every since. This donation brings the company’s donated total so far to 1,500,000 loads ($750,000+ in retail value) worth of laundry detergent strips.

“Our core value at Tru Earth is that consistent small action can lead to big change in the world. We see this not as a choice but as our commitment to help make the world a better place” said Brad Liski, Co-Founder of Tru Earth. “We are a Start Up Company but we are inspired by our team, our customers and our local, national and international organizations that are addressing the greatest need and caring for the most vulnerable among us. We urge other Canadian companies to come forward and help those most in need during this pandemic.”
